Jack,
I have several prominent memories from the brief time in which I had the pleasure to know you.
The first occurred during my first stay in your and Kathrine’s lovely home and it really highlighted your spunk and no-nonsense nature.
In my ambitious endeavor to endear myself to both you and Kathrine, and in the curious way you inevitably attracted people to your presence, I had stationed myself intrusively hanging over your shoulder while you attempted to play chess on your computer.
With zero appreciation for the concentration or subtlety needed to play chess, but filled with all the eagerness of a five year old wishing to learn all the workings of a new toy, I bombarded you with question after question regarding the rules and intricacies of the game.
I don’t know if it was the tightening of your shoulders or the increasingly shorter and shorter responses, however, I began asking my questions in a very low whisper.
After I had whispered at you several times, you sighed greatly and said in a somewhat resigned voice
“Whispering at me does not make it any less irritating “
Needless to say, I tiptoed from the room straight away!
Another incident that greatly endeared me to you was when, after deciding I was a bit smitten with you (I was in a serious relationship with your son and he carries so many wonderful qualities of both you and Kathrine, so who could blame me?)
Anyway. I had made an off-hand comment that if you were 20 years younger, your son would have some serious competition. You, without dropping a beat, looked pointedly across the room at Kathrine and said
“So would you.”
Clearly putting me in my place and letting me know that love knows no age and that you would choose Kathrine until death do you part.
I am so glad I got to know you, even just a little. You were funny, kind, generous and you definitely made the world a better place.
I am so sad I never got a chance to tour your workshop. You had a brilliant mind.
I am glad you were able to live a full life and had such a large loving family. I know they miss you dearly.
I still pray for you although I know you do not need it, as you are happy, safe and free.

I remember Jack having his own 'event' called
" Jack's Mid-Summer Tri " during the summer months in Huntington Bay, back in the 1980's ?
Although Jack did not know me or 'invite' me, he graciously allowed me to participate and experience the thrill of his private swim / bike / run event ( shirt and all ).
THANK YOU, Jack - you are a true Gentleman -
Rest in Peace, "Jack"

Katherine,
Our deepest sympathies for the loss of Jack. He was a great guy and will be missed. He was the life of the party. I still remember a party at your house back in the '80s.

The Bay Area Friends of the Fine Arts, Inc. (BAFFA) sends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Jack. As a musician, he had the opportunity to enjoy the camaraderie of many other musicians on Long Island where he shared his talent on the trombone with various orchestras. He will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of sorrow.
