Very sorry to learn of the passing of Coach McGuckin. Was not aware of it until today (4/2/17). Mr McGuckin, as I knew him at Holy Family, was my Varsity Football Coach. It was during that time, he instilled in me my core values, that have guided me successfully in life. I was lucky and proud to have played for him in 1971-72. He was a man of honor and integrity and will be missed by all who had contact with him. My sincere sorrow for your loss.

Dearest McGuckin Family,
Your Father was one of my Father's dearest friends and he has only just learned of
Charlie's passing. He has many stories of their younger days at Chaminade and
Villanova that light up his heart. We wish you gentle days and every grace to move through this time. May your Father be celebrated for all the joy and humor he brought, along with his incredible gifts for the game. With love and remembrance, William McGarry and Family

Coach McGuckin was a great man. He was a role model that we all looked up to as students and later in life as a professional. He knew how to get everyone to perform at a higher level through teaching / coaching and then followed up with practice, lots of practice. He gave people the confidence they needed to succeed. He taught us to believe in ourselves.
Coach M will be missed. His coaching style and positive motivational techniques will live forever.

I had the good fortune to be Mr. McGuckin's student manager with the baseball team in 1958 and 1959 at Chaminade.I will always remember him as a fair, patient man who had great knowledge of the game and also as an insightful teacher. He was especially good with the pitchers, teaching them how to change speeds and helping them polish their other pitches. We car-pooled to the games in those days and I often got to ride with him to and from them. I appreciated the rides in his VW Beetle, his dissection of the just-completed game and, most important, the "victory" apple he would share with me. He was a powerful example to me and I am grateful for the opportunity to have spent time with him. May he rest in peace and may you all rejoice in his life.

I am very sad to hear of the passing of Charlie McGuckin. He was so much a part of the Charger spirit at Holy Family High School in its formative years! Although I haven't seen him in over 40 years, he left a lasting impression for his positive energy and dedication to his students and players! May he rest in peace!
