Hyde - Michael L., 67 years of age, at his home, Saturday June 8, 2013, with his family at his side. Raised in the Inwood section of Manhattan, he attended Cardinal Hayes High School and New York Institute of Technology. He proudly served with the New York City Police Department for 20 years, retiring in 1989. Lieutenant Hyde was a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Air Force. He was an usher and parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church in Centerport for over 30 years. "Minnow" had a passion for fishing and became an expert navigator of Long Island's North Shore and it's waterways. The Captain's friendship and sense of humor will be missed by many. Mike is survived by Joy, his wife of 42 years; sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Megan of Manasquan, NJ, Matt and Michelle of Dalton, PA, Tom and Jaime of Astoria, NY, and Pete and Wendy of Port Washington, NY; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Dorothy Hyde of Hicksville, NY, John and Cathy Hyde of Branchburg, NJ; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and John Smith of Emerson, NJ. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; Kathryn, Owen, Margaret, Paige, Daniel, Mary, Shannon, and Liam. A visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 PM & 7-9 PM at Nolan & Taylor-Howe Funeral Home, 5 Laurel Avenue, Northport, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 10 AM at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 53 Prospect Road, Centerport, NY. Interment following at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY.
