Obituary of Harry J. Lennon

Harry Lennon, art & antique dealer and resident of Northport, NY, died unexpectedly of a stroke, January 8^th, 2018. Harry is survived by his wife, Marguerite (Maggie), his sister Margaret (Candy) Veth of Atlantic Highlands, NJ; his children, Heather Lennon Vieiro of Locust, NJ and Brian Lennon of Rutland, VT; his grandchildren Madeline Vieiro and Zachary Lennon; son-in-law Alan Vieiro; brothers-in-law Carlyle Hall, Jr. and Thomas Veth and his three pug dogs and two cats. He was pre-deceased by his mother and father, Margaret and Francis C. Lennon and his brother Francis X. Lennon.

Harry was born in Jersey City, NJ and spent his childhood in Port Monmouth, NJ, graduating from Middletown High School. He studied further at New York University and served in the U.S. Army.

Early in his career, Harry worked in the television industry and later switched careers, earning a stockbroker’s license.  But, it was his love for art and antiques that prompted him to start his third act in art & antiques and create a successful antiques business.

Harry and his wife, Maggie traveled the world hunting for antiques, visiting the UK and Ireland many times as well as continental Europe and Scandinavia. Together they owned Lennon Hall Antiques which had retail locations in Locust Valley, Forest Hills and Northport NY, as well as an online antique shop, Greentiques.

Harry spent decades active in Rotary International, both as a member of the Locust Valley Rotary and an officer of the Northport Rotary including serving as the Northport chapter President in 2006-2007.  Harry was a recipient of Rotary’s most prestigious service award, the Paul Harris Fellowship. 

A lifelong reader with an inquisitive mind and a tremendous sense of humor, Harry made friends everywhere he went. He was a loving husband, doting father, devoted to his pets and a tremendously kind man. At 72, he still possessed a full head of brown hair and a big heart! Harry was a multiple organ donor, his final gift to the world.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 11:30AM at the Nolan Taylor Howe Funeral Home, 5 Laurel Ave. Northport, NY.  Immediately following the service, all are welcome to attend a celebration of Harry’s life at the Ritz Café on Northport’s beautiful waterfront at 42 Woodbine Ave, Northport, NY.
