Flanagan, Virginia Elder of Greenlawn, NY, died peacefully on July 8, 2013. She was the beloved wife of the late George Flanagan and is survived by 7 children and 8 grandchildren. Jinny was a gifted psychotherapist, a valued friend, and an adventurous traveler and photographer. Jinny was born in Binghamton, NY. She met George Flanagan in post-graduate school. They moved from New York City to Greenlawn, Long Island in 1972. A year later, they adopted Christopher John and Erin Kit was born. Shortly afterward, they adopted Morna Lynn, Lara Marie, Sean Thomas, Debbie Lynn and Jonathon Ramesh. Jinny enjoyed travelling and did so extensively, most recently to Burma earlier this year. She lived a wonderful and wild life, participating fully. Jinny checked everything off her bucket list, including skydiving last year. She touched many lives, in addition to her family and friends, she was a gifted therapist who helped hundreds through their toughest times. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 9th at Nolan Funeral Home in Northport from 2pm - 5pm and 7pm - 9pm. There will be a memorial service, also at Nolan's on Wednesday at 11am. A celebration of her life will follow at Jinny's home. In lieu of flowers, Jinny asked that donations be made to Heifer International, Smile Train or Habitat for Humanity.
