Without John's help, Max wouldn't have made his Eagle Scout rank. For this and all the other events in our lives that John has touched, we are eternally grateful. Fair winds and following seas Chief.

John will be remembered as a proponent of the choirs and instrumentalists of the music department of First Presbyterian Church, Northport. He supported the organ renovation project and freely shared suggestions, compliments, and words of encouragement. With the youth of the church, he epitomized the saying, "each one - teach one". He shared his talents in carpentry with many but particularly the young men of the church. It was a special honor to be taught to ring the church bell under his tutelage. He taught our son this skill many years ago and always had a positive word for our daughter's efforts in dance and music. There would often be a connection to fire safety in his conversations accompanied by John's somber look and the twinkle in his eyes.
Servant of God, well done. We loved you, but God loves you best of all.

John was a good friend and teacher. He was extremely helpful. Especially for me when he was Department Secretary during my tenure as Department Chief. He was a wealth of knowledge in the administrative office. He was an incredibly sentimental man and had a strong appreciation for tradition. He loved good laughs and he loved to teach. You will be missed. Rest In Peace.

This man was a leader to me as a kid and allowed me to become a peer as an adult. He loved Jesus, his wife and kids, served his country, community and church. The angels are up one in number.
WELL DONE MY GOOD AND FAITHFUL FRIEND

John, You were a pleasure to serve with. A teacher, a supporter, a friend, a comrade! Few realize the what one sacrifices as a Reservist. The long sometimes endless days and nights, the travel and the dedication of family necessary to carry on a successful career. You always brought balance to so many situations with your wit, friendship and humor. You served through some of the most trying times in the Naval Reserve and did so with the dignity of the best of the crews that served alongside you. Many years have past but I still recall from time to time our trips to the ships and the experiences on board and you often enter those thoughts. God Bless My Friend. Fair Winds and Following Seas!

Dearest Faye and family,
There are few words to describe such a great man as John was.
I could never explain in words how during my youth at FPC he changed me and all the others teaching us what it meant to be a Christian. He took us all the way to Maine to help the poor people rebuild homes and never missed an opportunity to be with the junior and senior highs, He did so much for us all, for me. All of us, those whom were touched by him, we are richer and fuller and more blessed because of him.
He will be missed and never forgotten,
With my deepest sympathies and love, Krista and Lenny

I had the honor of serving with John for many years in the Naval Reserve.
He served on ships, steamed for many hard miles, lived through violent storms, and experienced the tranquility of a sunset on a calm sea. He was bored, cold, wet, scared, hungry and exhausted on many occasions, but he served his country because he believed it was the right thing to do. He was a devoted family man, a man of deep faith, and one who had a strong commitment to his community and to the young people he taught for many years.
I remember well his outstanding technical competence, his good humor, his leadership ability, and his sense of humor. I will miss his friendship, his support in difficult situations aboard ship and his strong sense of duty.
My deepest condolences to Faye and the family.
Rest in peace.
