Obituary of Charles J. McGowan

McGowan - Charlie of East Northport, NY on April 30, 2018, 81 years of age passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Bernadette for 55 years. A true love story. Loving father of Darren McGowan (Allison), Traci McGowan (Brian Cahill), Kieran McGowan, and Danny McGowan (Tara). Cherished grandfather of Colin, Griffin, Peyton and Gavin. Born in Brooklyn, NY to George and Irene. The 7th of 9 children. Survived by Mary Locke, Ellen Passalaqua and Julia Anne Merker. Charlie retired after 34 years with the NYPD as Inspector and Assistant Chief of Detectives. Family always came first for Charlie. He was our rock, our strength, our calm, our reason, and a source of laughter. He enjoyed all sports be it playing or watching. From basketball, to football, to tennis, to hockey. He was a true competitor. He especially enjoyed watching and cheering his 4 children and 4 grandchildren on the athletic fields. Visiting at Nolan & Taylor-Howe Funeral Home, 5 Laurel Avenue, Northport, NY, Saturday 7-9 pm and Sunday 2-5 & 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass Monday 10:45 am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, East Northport, NY.
