Obituary of John Robert Stebbins

John Robert Stebbins, 50, of East Northport and Altavista, VA, on January 25, 2019.

John is survived by his beloved mother, Gloria Stebbins of Hurt, VA; dear brothers, Morgan (Lisa) of Vero Beach, FL and Dominic (Beth) of Newburyport, MA; loving nephew, Colby; adored children, Jackson and Reese and their mother, Ellen, and Sophia and her mother Lori, all of Mount Pleasant, SC; cherished aunts, uncles and cousins.  John was predeceased by his father John Chester Stebbins and cousins, Sean and Melanie.

John was loved by all who knew him during his childhood in Port Jefferson, teenage years in Newburyport, MA and college years at University of South Carolina, where he played soccer—Go Gamecocks!  John leaves behind many wonderful, lifelong friends. Among them are his Newburyport “family,” Dave Mullen, Wendi Bedell, Erick Bell and Mark Doyle.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, John was an outstanding athlete who enjoyed participating in many sports.  His first love was soccer, however he thoroughly enjoyed hockey, baseball and all water sports! He was also a lifelong Boston fan—religiously following the Red Sox and Patriots.  Go Pats!

John’s professional life in finance brought him to the Boston area, the New York Metropolitan area, South Carolina and eventually the entire east coast, as he held various wholesaler and management positions at Merrill Lynch, Blackrock Securities, State Street Research and MetLife.

After leaving the world of finance, John settled in at his parent’s Virginia farm.  It was there on Thanksgiving 2015 that he began a relationship with his girlfriend, Antoinette Blanck of East Northport.  In addition to spending time in East Northport, they bought a house and created a home in Virginia. John and Antoinette enjoyed many adventures together, including trips to Maui, South Carolina, NYC, upstate New York and Montauk.  They truly enjoyed each other’s company whether it be dining out or watching TV at home, and made each other smile. Their time together in this world ended as John peacefully passed to the next world in Antoinette’s arms, in their East Northport home, exactly as he had wanted.

Memorial Visitation to be held at the funeral home on Friday, February 1st, 2019 from 2-5 & 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass Saturday, February 2nd, 2019, 9:15 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Church in East Northport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made online to benefit the Northport-East Northport Drug & Alcohol Task Force by following the link below.
