It is hard to believe that a year has gone by, it feels like only yesterday Dad and I were sitting in the house in Long Island. A storm had blown in and the lights went out, pretty common for LI.
For the next few hours Dad and I spent that time talking, no television distracting us, nothing but rain and wind. He told stories about his childhood, family, school, and glory days. It didn't matter that I had heard many of them ten or more times, it was just so nice to listen to him reminisce . We just sat in the darkness, him with his cell phone and me with my Kindle for light. Magical. Hours later lights back, I felt sad that they didn't stay off longer.
I miss you Dad.
Much love,
Di

I'll always remember Walter as a really nice, sweet man who loved being around my kids, and his daughter's grandkids. He would often sit and watch them running around with a big smile on his face. One specific memory is when they put a toy crown on his head, and instead of taking it off after the initial laughs, he kept it on the entire meal... just sitting there smiling, with a princess crown. He was a good man and will be missed by many.

Dale and family,
What a pleasure it was to know Walter. He was a wonderful husband and father (as evidenced by his gorgeous daughters). He was very bright, knowledgeable and well read. And such delightful, pleasant and genial company to be around. We hope his Australian hat provided him with as much joy as it seemed to. He looked adorable in it!
Dale, you gave him so much kind care and support for more than the last few years. You were lucky to have that opportunity and definitely made his last chapter a happier, better one.
We are thinking of you in these difficult times and sending love and support across the miles.
Leslie and Richard

To my friends Dale, Bobby, and the extended family,
Our deepest condolences for your loss. While we did not know Walter personally, we know you, Dale, the amazing daughter he raised, and I am sure was very proud of.
A few thoughts through this poem, helped me though a similar experience...
GO ON...
You can shed tears that he is gone,
Or you can smile because he has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back,
Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left.
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see him,
Or you can be full of the love that you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
Or you can look forward to tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember him and only that he is gone,
Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and shut down,
Or you can do what he would want...
Smile, open your eyes, love, and go on.
With sympathy and love,
Janice & Franck

Daley and family,
What a beautiful memory of your father, indeed you were the brightest lights in his life and knowing his girls were always with him gave him great joy,I am certain.
Hold on the the happy memories and think of them often, it is ok to cry and feel sad but important to understand that means you were fortunate enough to know true and unconditional love. To feel sad, you must also know joy. To feel loss/pain you must also have known love.
I’m so very sorry for your loss, it is always too soon to lose a parent. You are in my thoughts always... love,Ro

I’m very proud of my father. He had a difficult home life growing up but he didn’t let that alter who he was or who he wanted to become as a man, husband & father.
My dad had many interests, likes & loves but his main love & purpose in life was to be a good provider to his family.... & to ALWAYS take care of his wife. He, himself, was an afterthought.
Growing up, I was in awe of my dads intelligence and worldliness, work ethics & storytelling .. and I loved his “quasi-thrill” seeking, adventurous & creative side. He had a “work hard, play hard” mentality.
He was a big reader, loved to absorb knowledge, enjoyed working on his car, building models or anything using his hands mechanically/electronically/creatively. He wanted his daughters to be independent so I guess the tool box he put together for me before I left for college made sense.
He was warm & kind. He was shy, compassionate to others, non-confrontational, a good sense of humor, dignified & to some degree an emotional, sensitive man. He preferred being alone, except when it came to family.
The last few years I was my dads “go to” and he was my “daily”. I was lucky enough to have had that connection & time with him, to truly know him. I’m going to miss him but I’ll always be “his youngest” (as he called me).

Walter was a complicated man with so much more going on the surface than anyone usually saw. He was hard working above else, being one of founders of Standard Microsystems Corp in 1971 & retiring over 26 yrs later as Senior Vice President of Wafer Fabrication Operations.
He was equally dedicated to his family, teaching his daughters to be independent women. He taught them to work hard, do their best & to always be kind to those less fortunate. He strove to do the best for his family even if it meant putting aside his own ambitions. He was a loyal and dedicated husband, still visiting his wife daily up until two weeks ago.
Walter loved to share his insights and knowledge. If you bought a new car or gadget, his first question would be “did you read the handbook?” He would then read it himself just to be sure and yes, he would quiz you on it.
He was a gentleman. He still opened doors for women, carried their packages and remembered birthdays & anniversaries. He was their knight in shining armor.
The last few years he loved to have company...of course he also loved when the company went home. He enjoyed his privacy and fought to maintain his independence right up to the end.
But he never got tired of dogs. When one of his daughters showed with their dogs, his face would light up. He always had a new bags of treats just waiting for them. The joke was you could always visit so long as you bring your dog along.
If you were lucky enough to be one go those who knew Walter well, you were fortunate indeed. His passing has left us with a little hole in our hearts. It just wouldn’t be the same without him.

Tinkering with model building...and a few extra pieces after the finished product...hahaha....julia child, motorcycles....to scooters to sports cars to big boat sedans....he loved cars...he appreciated dry sarcastic humor....and food....oh the look when we put ketchup on lobster the first time....he didnt sweat the small stuff....but was an electrical engineer who appreciated attention to detail....all throughout life didnt care what other people thought, just did whatever made himself happy....like breezing past Suzanne on his scooter....obviously passing her on the wrong side of the road and smiling....hahahaha....thank you Suzanne for the nod to Dad and his scooter!

One of my fondest memories of Walter was of him riding around the neighborhood on his scooter. He would pass me in my car- wind in his face and throughly enjoying himself. It always made me smile. God bless you, Walter.
