Obituary of Victor N. Cuneo, Jr.

Victor N. Cuneo Jr., son of Victor Cuneo and Mary Nieve Cuneo, was born February 8, 1928 in Manhattan, New York.  He attended St. Phillip Neri school (grades 1-6) in Northport and graduated from Northport Junior/High School. Victor attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1945 and was a US Navy Midshipman at the New York Maritime College in 1946.  While attending the US Military Academy at West Point, he met the love of his life, Carolyn Reid from Easton, Maryland.  They were married in 1950 and spent many wonderful years together until Carolyn’s passing in 2019.  Soon after graduation from West Point in 1950, Victor served bravely and honorably in the Korean War as a vital leader of a Special Forces unit conducting unconventional warfare.  He received his MS degree in civil engineering from Texas A & M University in 1956 and completed his Army career with the Corps of Engineers.  He was an Associate Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn (1959-1963) and a Professor/Associate Dean at Suffolk County Community College (1959-1963). As an active member of the community, he served on the Northport-East Northport School Board and as president of the Northport Tennis Club.

Victor was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle.  He is survived by his three children, Linda (Jim), Victor (Sue) and Michael (Deb), his grandchildren, Tracey (Chad), Lindsay (Mike), CJ, Victoria, Ashley, Casey (Zavin) and Michael and his great grandchildren, Jarret, Aiden, Tyler and Shane.

 

Visiting will be 3-5 pm on Saturday, July 11th. Masks are required. Please be mindful that visitors are limited to 40 people in the building at a time and be respectful to those who may be waiting to visit by keeping your stay brief if possible.
