Obituary of Kerry Marie Hegarty

“Elegance is when the inside is as beautiful as the outside” -Coco Chanel

Kerry Marie Hegarty, 56, passed away peacefully July 15, 2020, at home in the Village of Huntington Bay, NY, her family all by her side, after battling cancer for seven years, never complaining or giving up, always partaking in family and friends’ life events.

Kerry was born on November 27, 1963, in Westchester, NY, to Mary (Vertucci) and Jack Hegarty. The first of their four daughters, Kerry lead the way for the Hegarty girls throughout her life.

While living in Manhattan, Kerry married Stephen J. Reddington, AIA, of Asharoken, NY, in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, on September 18, 1993. They left the Upper West Side of New York City to raise their two sons, Griffin and Jack, in Huntington.

Kerry, a loving and dedicated mother, cherished her sons and they were truly the love of her life.

Kerry’s life was filled with love and generosity. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family alike; Kerry really knew how to throw a party!

The consummate overachiever, Kerry graduated from Buffalo State College, earned an Executive M.B.A. from Harvard University, and had a distinguished 25-year career working for IBM. She became president of the Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA) and motivated the school district and the community to donate, volunteer and put more focus on the education of their son Griffin and his special needs classmates.

Kerry was passionate about her boys, designer shoes, books, and travel- in that order!

Kerry is survived by her father Jack, her husband Stephen, their two sons Griffin and Jack, her adoring sisters Joyce Costello (Joseph), Jacqueline Kenny (George) and Lynda Fisher (Thomas), and her devoted in-laws, Kathleen Reddington (Stephen McCarthy), Andree Cymber (Wayne), Dan Reddington (Catherine), Louise Urda (Rick), and Monique Reddington. As well as her 25 nieces and nephews who brought her much laughter and joy.

Memorial Service 10:45am on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at St. Patrick’s Church, 360 Main St., Huntington, NY. Expressions of sympathy in Kerry’s name can be offered as a donation to the Association for Children with Down Syndrome or Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk.
