He is the most positive, encouraging man we know. That smile beamed for miles. He would engage with everyone and anyone and always had clever and insightful input. Amazing man. And to no surprise the DNA passed to the family, We always walk away from a McNelis family encounter with a smile on our face and more pep in our step . He lived a full life, well accomplished and well respected, something to strive for, glad we have been a part his world. Tom & Kathleen

I'll never forget Pat's definition of a great Huletts Day
"Irene and I would go to the casino Saturday nights for dinner and dancing in the days of a live band. after dinner we would close down the bar then walk up the other bar that use to be by the cascades and close that. Then walk home and stop by the bakery and pick up cinnamon buns for the kids and place them on the kitchen table so we could sleep in a little bit in the morning.
We really enjoyed those days"
Knowing Pat all these years I think he enjoyed everyday at Huletts.
RIP

If every person that has been blessed with the good fortune of meeting and knowing Pat McNelis held a gathering in his honor they would be hard pressed to find a proper venue to accommodate that capacity … of course Pat’s first choice would have always been “Ebbets Field”, the eternal home of his beloved “Brooklyn Dodgers”. My wife and I will always treasure being a part of that assembly as Pat was one of the Lord’s sterling examples of how well a life can be played out in this worldly existence. Pat will be missed by us all but he will always be only be a memory away whenever recalling those many moments spent together whether on the golf course at Huletts with him holding court at the post round comedy hour retelling his famous “Duck Joke”, being shoulder to shoulder with him as volunteer firefighters, raising “Roady’s” of cool draft Coors Light beer in the upper deck at their cottage while basking in the beautiful panorama of their splendid view of Lake George, or just spiritually, listening to his soft spoken lectern recitals during evening mass at the Chapel. All of that, and much more, of the man we know and love called, Pat McNelis. May God bless and comfort Irene and the entire McNelis family on the loss of their beloved Patriarch … how ironic … even that well deserved reference begins with the letters … “Pat”.

I will miss his smiling face as we passed on his many walks around Huletts. He would always stop as we walked our German Shepherds past his house and say hi to our pups and say “it would be much easier if we just rode them around Huletts”. Such a funny nice man. You will be missed Mr McNelis RIP.

So many ways to describe Mr. McNelis - warm, gracious, happy, kind, funny and loving. Every day that we passed his cottage, Mr. McNelis would smile, threaten to spray us with a hose and do little dance. It always made our day extra special. Our children still remember the evening Mr. McNelis came to our cottage to get them so they could see the space station travel across the sky - a wonderful moment of many that we will always remember. Truly one of the best of the Greatest Generation. Mr. McNelis and his family are in our thoughts and prayers.
Second star to the right and straight on 'til morning...

Such a warm and welcoming man - we will miss his smile and friendship. I will always remember Pat and my dad, Tom Portela, proudly singing “Manhattan Men”. When passing by the McNelis cottage at the lake we’d often find Pat tinkering in his garden. He always found time to stop and chat and play ball with our pup, Flag. We will miss him. Our deepest and most heartfelt sympathies to Irene and all of the McNelis family.

All I can think about is how bright his light is and always will be. I remember how much family history and memories were so important to him. His legacy is immense and lives on through his beautiful loving joyful family. I loved reading about all he accomplished. It is clear he left pieces of his spirit in all he did, all the enthusiasm he shared, and all the lives he touched. I am honored to be part of his family and to have a piece of him. With all my love, Jeannine McAteer

There are so many smiles and memories which come to mind about Pat. If you were lucky enough to pass by the McNelis house at Huletts on any random afternoon, you would be met by Pat's beaming smile looking down from his deck and inviting you up for a cold one and some laughs. Whatever the setting, Pat was the master at "holding court" with his stories, jokes, and occasional reminiscences of his beloved Brooklyn Bums.
