Dear Jack, I'm sad we won't enjoy more dinners and golf games. I'm sad I won't see the sparkle in your eyes nor the timbre of your laughter. We were stepbrothers. To me you were a wise and good-humored, generous, thoughtful and a solid guy of strong Christian character. Thank you Jack, RIP; I'm grateful to you for sharing your friendship with me. Mark

Uncle Jack was a thoughtful, kind and generous man. Never an unkind word was said by him.

Uncle Jack was my godfather and a very special person in my life. He was my father's oldest brother and dad (Peter Stewart) often shared his favorite memories of growing up together. There were three brothers including my Uncle Bill Stewart and they were very close even when the fought. My dad recalls these "rows" with a smile even as he describes his mother having to break it up with a broom. My Uncle Jack loved his family including all of his nieces and nephews very much. He always made a point to attend all family events including weddings, baptisms, birthdays, first communions, anniversaries, etc. Uncle Jack was not fond of flying at all. In fact, the story goes that once he got off the last flight he took in the late 1950's (maybe early 60's), he never got on another plane again. But in order to be at my wedding in 1993, he took a train across the country from New York to San Francisco just to be there. He told me that he would not have missed it for the world. Uncle Jack had a great sense of humor and big smile that made you feel loved. Growing up as kids, he always remembered our birthdays and Christmas with a special card and usually a $20 bill tucked inside. This made my mother, Sally, smile because she marveled that even as a bachelor, Uncle Jack remembered. He simply signed each card, "Love, Uncle Jack". Uncle Jack will be greatly missed and always remembered by those that knew him best.
