Obituary of Karen Ann Fusco

Karen Ann Fusco (Schopp)

12/4/1959 – 11/08/2020

the best & most loving, caring Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt, Godmother & Friend

Karen, who loved to be called “Ka” by her husband & friends, departed her loving family & was called Home to God on November 8th, 2020.

Karen was born in Queens, NY on December 4th, 1959 to Richard & Corinne Schopp. The family moved from Bayside, Queens to East Northport in 1967.

Karen attended first through eighth grade at St. Phillip Neri School in Northport. She then went on to attend Holy Family High School in South Huntingon & later transferred to Northport High School, where she would graduate & go on to work in the Insurance field. Karen’s family has established a scholarship in remembrance of her time at Northport High School, where she made lifelong friendships & many fond memories working in the school library. The Karen Ann Schopp Fusco Memorial Award will be presented to a deserving student at the end of this school year with aspirations to pursue a future in Library Science.

After meeting at 14 years young, Karen was later married to her soulmate & best friend, Joseph John Fusco, on April 13th, 1985 at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church in East Northport. They have two beautiful children, Andrea Lynn (33) & Joseph Anthony (23), that she was an unconditionally loving, selfless & caring mother to. After relocating to Florida in 1990, she raised her children with love & devotion in the Fort Lauderdale area with her husband Joseph, though they all frequently visited "Home" on Long Island each & every year.

As a Customer Service Representative in Insurance for 30+ years, Karen was known for her exceptional work ethic, longevity & loyalty to her employers, friendliness & helpfulness to her coworkers & commitment to servicing her clients with kindness & professionalism. Her hobbies included being a lifelong Cat Lady to the late "Patches”, “Luck-white" & "Kitty" & most recently, Ricky & Jerry, watching her favorite soap operas (General Hospital, Bold & the Beautiful) & TV shows (American Idol, The Voice, Dancing with the Stars, Real Housewives of New Jersey, King of Queens), cooking (Karen made the BEST sauce & meatballs), attending concerts & live music events. Karen LOVED music, especially Michael Jackson, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin & the Backstreet Boys, to name a few. Most of all, Karen enjoyed just spending time with her family & friends. She was most proud of her kids, her husband & the life they’ve built. Karen's family was absolutely everything to her & she to them.

She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph, & her children, Andrea & Joseph. By her Nieces, Julianna, Stefanie, Teresa, Steffany, Judi, Petrina, Olivia, Angela & Rosaria & Great Nieces, Leah, Addison & Natalie. By her Nephews Matthew, Richard, Anthony, Steven, Nicholas, James, Michael, Jason, Kenny, Frankie & Jeffrey & Great Nephews Hunter, Brandon, Henry & Daniel.

Aside from the children she doted on, Karen is survived by her siblings Jeanne Marie (Richard), Robert (Susan), & Richard (Lori). As well as her Mother-in-Law, Petrina & siblings by marriage, Connie (Jack), Vincent (Lourdes), Frank (Debbie) & Theresa (Robert), all of whom she loved very much.

Celebration of Life services for Karen will be held at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church on Saturday, April 24th at 11am. A short burial ceremony will take place thereafter at Northport Rural Cemetery, where Karen will be laid to rest with her parents, Richard & Corinne.

The Family of Karen is forever grateful for the love & lifelong memories of her & wants to sincerely thank their family & friends for their support & prayers during these most difficult times. They would like to express their appreciation to everyone who loved Karen in celebrating & being a part of her beautiful life.

We all love & miss her so much. We know she is dancing & snapping her fingers, beautiful & happy in heaven, reunited with beloved family & friends.

“KA”…Forever in Our Hearts

“And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold

And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all is one and one is all, that's what it is
To be a rock and not to roll, oh yeah

And she's buying a stairway to heaven”

-Led Zeppelin
