Obituary of Harold J. Hoffmann "Hap"

Harold J. Hoffmann

September 16, 1942 – May 8, 2021

With heavy hearts, the Hoffmann family regrets to announce the passing of Harold "Hap" J. Hoffmann. Hap was loved by all who knew him. He was a person of sharp wit, great intellect, warm heart, and generous spirit. Hap was a dedicated teacher, advisor, and mentor to countless people over the years, both through his teaching career and outside of work as a volunteer for a number of organizations. He will be deeply missed.

Hap is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janis, daughter Tara (Limperatos), son-in-law John Limperatos, son Jason, daughter-in-law Caroline, and wonderful grandchildren Reagan, William, and Jackson.

Son of Dorothy E. Kastendieck (deceased). Brother of Rev. Lawrence Hoffmann and Gregory Hoffmann (deceased).

Hap worked for 35 years in the Half Hollow Hills School District, where he served as a Spanish teacher, guidance counselor, principal of High School East, and then Assistant Superintendent for Elementary and Middle School Education. After retiring from the public school system, he became the first lay Principal of Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx, where he worked until 2009.

Reposing Nolan Funeral Home, Thursday 2-5 & 7-9 PM. Funeral Service Friday 11AM at the Funeral Home, Fr. John Gilmartin presiding. In lieu of flowers donations to V.N.S. Hospice of Suffolk, 505 Main Street, Northport  NY, 11768, in Hap's memory would be appreciated.
