Pat and I shared the same group of friends growing up in Rosedale. He was a true friend - lots of fun with an amazing laugh. He was also one of the nicest, most sincere people I have ever known. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

I just read of Pats passing in the UFOA Trumpet. My sincere condolences to the Hyland family. Pat knew my dad (Captain Eng 5 & Squad 5) from the lower east side while in the FDNY. I believe he was a ladder 3 guy until heading to rescue. He later moved into our neighborhood in Glen Head. I remember my dad saying what a great fireman Pat was and about his service to our country in Vietnam. When my dad passed, his wife at the time was his nurse at St Francis Hospital and Pat was the first at our door. He later supported my brothers and I as we joined the FDNY. To the Hyland family, My sincere condolences to all in the family, Pat was a Green Beret Lt. who served in Viet Nam, was a NY City fireman, like my father, and they all loved being firemen. Pat was a terrific athlete, & enjoyed playing football on Sundays with all of us from Rosedale when it was a town like the wonder years back then. There is a sense of shock when guys like Pat leave us to soon, I remember his training for the Ironman contest in Hawaii and doing really well especially in the pre lims. He was one of the original Rosedale Tavern bartenders for Joe Ryan and an Army Navy game attendee in Phiadelphia when Joe Ryan organized those trips. He is on the Rosedale memorial, still there this day near Sunrise Hwy. Your family is in ours prayers and will be at Mass tomorrow , and we are very sorry for your loss this day. May that road rise up to meet him.................all along the way, May god bless your family, Sincerely Bob Quinn
