I never met Brendan, but I just read his story on the 9/11 memorial site and I googled him, came here. So sorry to hear of his passing. He was an incredible writer that touched my heart with his recounting of 9/11. I posted my own 9/11 story and I am currently applying to the WTC fund because I got kidney cancer and lost my right kidney after being in the blast zone. In the story, the love he speaks of for his family is palpable.

I first met Brendan in 1994, as one of my friends worked at Empire BCBS and introduced us. His sardonic wit and love of music were mutual interests, and as we grew older, we both shared sobriety. I was lucky enough to text him a few weeks before he passed to share with him that I appreciated the good times we had: Brew Canoe, Smashing Pumpkins concert, North Lake camping trip, and the many conversations about music and sports. He was a stand-up guy, and I am glad I shared some time with him.

There are far too many memories of Brendan to list here. We have been blessed with his friendship for more than 18 years. I can't remember a time when Brendan wasn't in our lives. We cherish every minute that we have spent in his company. He has such a kind heart that he tries to keep hidden underneath that amazing wit. Could dissolve me in laughter in a heartbeat. It was an honor to have him visit us each year to run the half marathon in OKC. We once asked him why he never came for one of our anniversaries and in typical Brendan humor he said "If I come for the anniversary I have to share you with everyone, so I come for the race so that I can have you all to myself!" And that he did. His many "traditions" for race weekend grew each year. It was a whirlwind of food, laughter and love. How we hated to see him leave each year but knew that when we saw him again, we wouldn't miss a beat. Whenever we were in New York, he was the ultimate host taking us all over the city and beyond on his "Brendan Chellis tour of New York". Then we visited him in Boston. Spent a weekend with him and got the "Brendan Chellis tour of Boston". It was an amazing weekend that we will never forget. I personally will cherish all the subway rides we took together whenever I came to NYC. He hated taking cabs. So whenever our group was in the city and we were going somewhere for the evening, everyone else would climb into taxis and head out. Brendan would find the nearest subway entrance and off we would go together trying to beat everyone to our destination. Many times we would be waiting there when the cabs pulled up. It was so much fun being with him, period! For now, we won't be seeing Brendan except in our dreams and memories. But I know that when we see Brendan again, we will be met with that amazing smile of his, him saying "this is gonna be the best day EVER! and we won't have missed a beat. Til then we will miss him and keep him and our memories close in our hearts. Joanne and Gary Hutchison.

We met Chiz a few years ago when we went to OKC for the Memorial 5k and half marathon. He ran the half. We spent 5 days with him at Joann and Gary's house. Always funny. We had rituals for those days. Friday's we picked up our race packets, then went to Remington Park to bet on quarter horse races. Sunday after the half would find us at an indoor gun range. Chiz got to fire my AR-15 and 44 magnum. Never saw a bigger grin on anyone's face but his. We dined at the Cattleman's Restaurant Sunday night. Chiz was always funny. He gave as good as he got. We will miss him. Rest in Peace, Amigo.

Brendan you make a difference, changed the game for the better, became a guide that someone else can follow and make better, and then someone else will follow that and make that better. You will be missed.
