Obituary of William Hinton

William P. Hinton (age 87) of Northport, NY died suddenly on August 20, 2022. A native of Appleton, Wisconsin born May 26, 1935. Beloved husband of Barbara. Loving father of Stephanie Hinton and Jennifer FitzMaurice & her husband John. Dear grandfather of Emma Smith and step grandfather of Michael and Greg. Fond brother in-law of Connie Bennett and Gordon McClelland.

Bill graduated in 1953 from the Shattuck School an Epsicopalian Military school located in Faribault, MN where he was a standout hockey player and member of the Crack Squad. In 1957 he graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a bachelor's degree in Geology. He served in the US military from 1958-1961 in Army Intelligence as a Russian Translator where he was stationed in Berlin, Germany. Bill was known as a Renaissance Man who was midwest humble. He was an avid sailor who competitively sailed out of the Northport Yacht Club with the Ensign Fleet #7. A connoisseur of opera and classical music he could also cook up a mean Julia Child recipe. Bill enjoyed international travel, poetry and working on the Sunday NY Times crossword puzzle with his wife Barbara of 59 years. In his retirement years he volunteered at the Northport VA Medical Center. Bill commuted to NYC for 31 years and worked for Carr Commodities, Dean Witter and Prudential.

Memorial visiting Nolan Funeral Home, 5 Laurel Avenue, Northport Thursday 2-5 & 7-9pm, Funeral Service 8pm with the Rev. Duncan Burn of St. John's Episcopal Church of Huntington officiating.

In Bill's memory donations to the Alzheimers Association would be appreciated.
