My name is Toby offermann and Ed Hanlon or I should say Shmed as his brother Patrick and I called him was not only my best but the best friend anyone ever had.
Because Ed loved a good movie reference as much as me, he was my “Stand by me “ friend. One of the most important friends in a man’s life if you’re lucky enough to have. 12 -16 the years before girls and the beginning of girls being a thing. We went from boys to young men together. Started our love for music together. Witch everyone who knows him knows he liked his music. And one of the best parts of being his friend is it’s a package deal. I got the whole Hanlon family who always treated me and made me feel like part of their amazing family. Even when I gave them reasons not to. Mrs. H knows what I’m talking about.
Thank you Mrs H you were like a my second mom.
One of the many great things about Shmed is even though we went separate ways after school and only got together a couple times over the years it was like we were 12 again and saw each other yesterday.
I’m so thankful to another good old friend mine and one of Ed’s best friends and by Ed’s side for at least 30 years and every way possible, especially when Ed needed him most. Thank you so much Chris Connely.
Sorry if I spelled name wrong. I’m so thankful to you.
Thanks to you I was able to see one of the greatest and most important friends of my life one last time.
I left country the day after I got to be with him. I told him I would see him again when I got back, sadly he passed while was away and I’m so sorry I missed service. My heart breaks knowing I won’t get to see my old friend again.
Until I get to sit with him in the seat I know he’s saving me.

I had the pleasure of working with Ed in the social studies department at POBJFK. Over the years, Ed was a wealth of knowledge on history and economics, and always made himself available to answer questions or offer suggestions on lessons.
Ed wasn’t just passionate about history; he loved music more than anyone I’ve ever met. I always enjoyed our discussions around music, learning fun facts about artists we liked, or learning about new artists to listen to. Above all, I enjoyed talking to Ed about parenthood. While Ed did love his music, there was nothing he loved more than his family.
Laurie, Alex, and Erin - I may not have had the pleasure of meeting you, but I feel like I know you from Ed’s stories. My deepest condolences to you on your loss.
Ed will truly be missed.

Mr. Hanlon was so different from all the other teachers I’ve had. He truly understood us and comforted us about day to day problems. He always came into class with a huge smile on his face excited to hear how everyone is. Thinking that he is no longer with us is devastating. Sending my condolences to his family.

I had the privilege of knowing Ed Hanlon for the beginning part of my career at POB JFKHS. Ed was someone that I could always go to for a balanced, unbiased opinion, or to take a deeper dive into anything history or music related. I always loved sharing a room with Ed as it meant that I was able to engage in meaningful conversations with someone that I truly trusted. Ed's historical, cultural, musical, and overall human insight made it seem like there was nothing that this man didn't know. I was extremely lucky to have worked alongside Ed for a few years, and I am confident that someday I will have the privilege of meeting him again. Until that time Ed, Let There Be Rock!
Rest in Peace Brother.
Thank you for everything.

To Ed and his entire family,
I had the pleasure of working with Ed during his time as a teacher at POBJFKHS and he was always looking out for student’s best interest. Whenever he was concern about a student or an issue we needed to know about, like health & safety, he would work diligently to help solve the problem. Based on all my conversations between Ed and I, now seeing all his students/colleagues’ words and the stories I have heard this week, it affirms what a good person Ed was and is leaving an impact on many lives that will carry for many lifetimes.

I was lucky enough to have Mr. Hanlon my sophomore year. Social studies was not my favorite subject, but Mr. Hanlon always made me excited to go to class and learn. What made him such a special teacher was he genuinely cared about his students. He put in the effort to get to know about us outside of the classroom as well. He always reassured us that our grades didn’t define us and we were amazing students no matter what. You don’t find many teachers like him. Rest in peace, Mr.Hanlon. Sending prayers to his family and friends.

I was supposed to have Mr Hanlon for economics this year and I was so excited. I heard so many amazing things about him and how great of a teacher and person he was. To sit in his classroom without him there is truly saddening. His memory will live on. Prayers to his family and friends.

Ed helped make the department feel like home from the first time I met him. He was just a very welcoming, straightforward guy who loved what he did! I absolutely loved his opinions on movies and music and wish we had more time to share all of it. We'll miss him, but he's impossible to forget.

Mr.Hanlon was one of my favorite teachers in High School. He is the reason I got through 10th grade global and economics my senior year. To think that I just last saw him a few months ago is crazy. He would always talk about his daughters and family and how much he loved them. He would always be there for each and everyone of his students whenever you needed someone to talk to. I appreciate everything he has done for me and the class when I was his students. Mr. Hanlon was truly a fantastic teacher. Sending my deepest condolences to his family. He will be deeply missed!

I want to give my condolences to Ed's family. I met Ed at Bellerose elementary school. We are both libra's as our birthdays were only days apart . I always considered him a friend even though we were in different social groups in middle and high school. I never met anyone who had a bad word to say about him. He was truly a good person.

I had the pleasure of working with Ed for the past 8 years at POBJFK High School. In 2014, when an opening became available in our Social Studies Department, I heard he was interested in transferring from the middle school. I couldn't have been happier to bring him over to join our faculty. He had a reputation for being a caring and kind teacher, who excelled in teaching history. It was a great fit for him and for our students. I was fortunate to have ample opportunities to work with him on other school related projects due to his role with the Plainview Congress of Teachers and as a member of our Emergency Response Team. With each role he had, he was openminded and thoughtful. He always had the best interest of our students when he spoke. Ed, you were with us for a rather short time, but your impact is profound and your memory will be eternal. Thank you for your great work and friendship, and may you rest in peace. My deepest condolences to his loving wife, Laurie, and their wonderful girls, Erin and Alexis. They will continue to carry on their father's legacy.

Mr. Hanlon is the reason I am studying to become a social studies teacher. I always appreciated the Irish flag he kept in his classroom because my mom was born there. He was not only a great teacher but an incredible friend to every student he had. He touched so many lives and will be missed by so many students.

We welcomed Ed to Mattlin many years ago when I was an Assistant Principal and there was an immediate positive impact to our Social Studies department and to our school as a whole. Everyone loved Ed when he arrived. A few years later he moved onto the HS and it was truly bitter sweet for the Mattlin family. I was especially disappointed to see him go.
This year it was my turn to transition to the HS and Ed was one of the many people I was looking forward to working with. He and I had a lot of laughs over the years and I have been sharing some of the stories with the HS team. I will always remember Ed in the fondest ways. He was an outstanding educator who truly challenged his students to think on a deeper and more elevated level. I loved watching him teach.
I will miss you dearly Ed and I will see you on the other side for some good conversations and some laughs. RIP my friend.

dearest condolences to the Hamlin family. Had Mr.Hanlon in 10th grade, was my last class of the day. He really gave me something to look forward to at the end of my school day. I vividly remember a conversation we had about old school fashion trends coming back such as Vans and converses simply because we both were wearing vans that day. He was full of positivity and always made sure to include everyone. Will always hold a place in our hearts. Rest in paradise :(

Mr. Hanlon changed my life. He was always there for me and my friends. He was the most influential person in my teenage years and pushed me through high school and got me into college. He is amazing. I can’t be there on these days because I am at college learning like he told me to, but I will be thinking of him. He was the best teacher I have ever had and I didn’t have him as my actual teacher until my junior or senior year of high school. Sitting in remedial with him almost everyday was what gave me the strength to move forward with learning and wanting to learn more. He had the best stories and never failed to make anyone smile. He will be missed by me and so many others. Truly a one of a kind man and I don’t doubt he’s in heaven being the coolest dude there is. I will miss you Hanlon.
