Many many moons ago, (while the earth was still cooling), a man walked by my childhood home with his dog while my mom was working in the garden.
They chatted and the man mentioned that his wife was pregnant with their first child, to which my mother responded, “well, you tell your wife she needs to have a girl, because my baby girl needs a best friend.”
Not being the type to challenge The Helenator (as Judd and I lovingly called my mom), the couple gave birth to a girl, and she did become my lifelong best friend.
The sweetest, kindest, most loving father, husband, and grandfather has left this realm to reunite with his lovely bride. I was incredibly blessed to have Mr. and Mrs. Dresch in my life for so many years, and how they always welcomed me as family. I will cherish the memories of our Via Con Dios tours of the Caribbean, Fireman’s Fairs, summer pool parties, NYE dance parties, numerous sleepovers with Christina, Bestest Step with Katie, celebrations with the extended Dresch & Zorovich clans, and so much more. I am a better person because of John and Eileen, and I am forever grateful. Godspeed, Mr. D!

Mr. Dresch was like an uncle to me and my sisters, we have known him our entire lives. He will be missed but with so many great memories he will not be forgotten. I remember him teaching me how to waterski at lake Sebago, the skunk at his tent at north lake and scuba diving in the backyard pool.
I am so sorry for your loss and will see you on Monday.

John was a true gentleman; just a lovely, sweet man. My John and I always enjoyed the times that we shared with Eileen & John. The world has lost one of the good guys. My deepest sympathy.

I’ve known John for almost 25 years. I got jumped into the family when I married Cathy. Year after year I’d come and visit, generally on my worst behavior.
Enormous holiday family parties and a wild amount of love and laughing. It was a gift to know him. An absolute sweetheart of a guy, gentle and adoring to his lovely bride, children, and grandchildren.
He’d pick us up from the Fireman’s Fsir in various states of malty disarray and charitably look the other way when we returned noisy and hungry to his kitchen to raid his fridge in the wee hours.
Some of my favorite memories were sitting around the table, telling tall tales and questionable jokes. He made me feel like family.
He was a mensch of the purest caliber despite my ungovernable behavior. The only time I ever saw him moderately peeved with me was when I grabbed the check for a few pizzas. The man had been feeding me for decades. Typical John, he didn’t hold a grudge and seemed to treat the incident with the same forgiveness that he treated his beloved Labrador, Murphy when he was standing on the dining room table eating salads off the good China. It was a fair comparison.
In no small way was his marriage to Eileen the model for my marriage to Cat. His Fiftieth Anniversary with Eileen and renewal of their vows was a high water mark in Familial Joy. We should all do so well.
The world is a little colder without him. He was a luminous and joyful personality who will be sorely missed. Fair winds and following seas, John. I’ll see you again on the other side.
Love and hugs to the family,
Judd Dulick
