I'm still missing her. Sounds silly there was a commercial with a lady dancing and singing about some drug, she reminded me of the Barbara that I performed with at IS 125Q..... I'd look up and smile, suddenly they put some corny lady in place of the girl that made me smile, it was like I lost Barbara all over again. I know it sounds silly, but it's real to me. I'm losing so many really nice people in NY and SC.......to this durn cancer....still love you guys....watering the lawn in the Hamptons and Roy encouraging me to sing out!!!

I met Barbara at the Heights Players, and sooooo enjoyed working with her - it never felt like work! Barbara had a smile for everyone, a smile that touched your soul. A beautiful woman, inside and out. And laughter - I smile just thinking about all the times we laughed together. I treasure out time together. My deepest and sincerest condolences to her family. Rest well, my friend.

Looking back on my days at Whitman will always include Mrs. Sperrazza. She was a huge part of my high school experience, having had her for English and drama class, as well as participating in Whitman's iconic theater productions. Mrs. Sperrazza was loving, fun, kind, real, caring, tough when needed, etc, etc, etc, which to me are the perfect qualities of an unforgettable teacher and human being. The last thing Mrs. Sperrazza said to me when I gratuated was, "I can't wait to see your name in lights," and I'll never, ever forget that.

I was lucky enough to have Mrs. Sperrazza in 9th grade. She became a constant throughout my four years and beyond. She was so warm and kind. She was always there to listen. She was always there with a hug. She made high school better for me. She made high school better for my sister. I feel lucky to have crossed paths with her at such a formative age. It's been over twenty years since I stepped into Walt Whitman and I still think of her. Thank you for everything.

Hearing of the passing of Mrs. Sperrazza hurts a lot. This woman opened my eyes to the love of theater, helped build confidence in myself and on the stage and truly was a light for not only myself, but for so many students. Thank you to all the years and countless hours you've worked to provide students like myself a safe space to create and be unapologetically themselves. You will be missed.

Mrs.Sperrazza may have been the most influential teacher I had in my academic career. Her grace, grit, humor and energy made my English class feel like a treat rather than a chore. My fondest memory of her was the day her lesson consisted of the song “100 years” by five for fighting. Having us analyze and break down that song was one of the most incredible lessons of my highschool career. I honestly didn’t know how impactful it was until years down the road finding myself constantly reliving that lesson and thinking about my life and many of my goals. I haven’t seen you in quite some time and you occasionally always wondered into my mind. You were truly was of this worlds greatest gifts. I hope you know how much you’ve touched my life and countless others. My condolences to your family but the celebration of your life is in order because you truly were an angel on earth. Thank you Mrs.Sperrazza I will cherish your memories for the rest of my life Rip Angel until we meet again I can’t wait for one of your hugs!

I used to share room 223 with Barbara at Walt Whitman High School after hours while working with the young kids in the Little People's Theater. She would grade papers and I would direct the productions. A warm, wonderful friendship developed and we became fast friends. She eventually suggested I work with Roy as music director for LPT and our productions really took off. Another friendship made was created with great love and mutual respect. Roy, Barbara you both have enriched my life and those of the theater students who came to us. My heart goes out to both families for a life cut short too soon, too soon. I love you Barbara and can still hear your laughter. Roy, when you are feeling stronger with this, we shall spend some time, remembering Barbara and enjoying those memories together.

To the Depaula and Sperrazza families I say such an early and painful loss is really unfair, but I put my faith in Jesus and know we will understand someday and enjoy "Butsy's" laughter once more and in a better place! May the Lord keep you all in his peaceful arms while you miss her. She was a true and lively friend. There are too many memories, so here are three...seeing Grease with her friend Frank, our need to see every Disney movie and the time we were on our way to Carole's Apt in the Village and an unfortunate stranger called us, let's just say out of our names for no reason at all! We laughed that evening and many years after. We blamed my MJ, white socks in penny loafers.
Bonnie, 125Q colleague,
sister-friend and buddy.
*Last week, even in pain, she made me laugh for two days.*

It was an honor to facetime her; To keep her company and tell her updates on classmate's lives. I didn't sleep well last night, tossing and turning, waking up to the sound of the heavy rain. But in my dreams it sounded like applause. Mrs. Sperrazza took her last bow on the stage known as Earth. May she start her new Act 1 in the peace of Heaven, with no burdens to carry or pain to hold on to.

Mrs. Sperrazza was a beautiful soul. My first memory of her was in my dining room when I was about 5. She worked with my Dad and they had become fast friends! We loved her! When my mother got sick, she called and spent over an hour with me on the phone encouraging me and telling me that everything would be ok. I was also lucky enough to have her as an English teacher at 125. She was an amazing teacher but even a better friend! We are sending love and prayers to her family, especially Mr. Sperrazza.

Mrs Sperrazza always will be one of the best! Legend. No nonsense. Unafraid to speak her mind! She was the teacher who made an impact! Pushed me outside my comfort zone and got me sharing my writings. Without her I would not be where I am today in my writing journey. Even after I graduated we stayed in touch as friends and writing collaborators. To say she will be missed is an understatement if there ever were one. Endless Thoughts and Prayers to her loved ones. Love you Sperrazza!

Mrs.Sperrazza was the best teacher I’ve ever had. She taught me so much not only about English/Drama but also life lessons. She was the funniest, most genuine person and when she loved you it was with her whole amazing heart. She even came to my wedding and I will never forget walking down the aisle and in her “Bea Arthur voice” as she would always say telling me I’m beautiful. She always lifted me up. She will be greatly missed.
