Obituary of Alfia J. Livaccari

October 2nd, 2023, Alfia Josephine Livaccari passed away peacefully and surrounded by family and loved ones after a two and a half year long battle with pancreatic cancer. Beloved wife of 51 years of the late Dominick Livaccari, loving mother of Thomas (Elizabeth Perates) and Laura (Andrew Herzig), and cherished grandmother of Anna, Julia, Alexander, and Christina. She leaves behind a legacy of many loving family members and friends. Alfia was born December 11, 1942 in Flushing, Queens to Joseph and Rose Torrisi. At 16, she met her future husband while working at Best & Company. She went to St. John’s University for her undergraduate degree in education, the first member of her family to attend college. She also graduated from LIU-CW Post with a Masters degree. After substitute teaching in the Northport School District for many years, she became a teacher at Otsego Elementary, where she worked for 16 years. After retiring, she volunteered at the Huntington Hospital gift shop and joyfully sang in the choir of St. Anthony’s of Padua, where she was a longtime parishioner. She lived in her home in East Northport for 53 years and was surrounded by an amazing community of neighbors. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling with Dominick, playing mahjong with the ladies, engaging in activities with the local homemakers club, and, most importantly, spending time with her grandchildren. She was a friend to all, a bright light in every room, and a source of strength to everyone who knew her. We will miss her dearly. Reposing Monday 3-8 pm at Nolan Funeral Home, 5 Laurel Ave, Northport, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday 10 am at St. Anthony of Padua RC Church in East Northport. Entombment to follow at St. Charles Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital www.stjude.org
