Obituary of Evelyn Shelley

Shelley, Evelyn T. 83, of Northport, formerly N. Massapequa, on November 5, 2023.

Evelyn was at her core a loving mother, grandmother and friend. Both in Massapequa and Northport, she created a home that was always welcoming to family and friends. From formal Christmas dinners to informal get togethers (with heavy snacks) for football and Trivial Pursuit, she enjoyed hosting and fostering lifelong friendships. As her family expanded over the years, she remained the anchor for her brothers, children, grandchildren and friends and was an enthusiastic youth sports and dance fan. She was a lifelong tennis player, committed golfer and enjoyed regular games of canasta with her “card ladies.”

She will be remembered as a strong, loyal, loving and active person who fought and endured a terrible illness with bravery, dignity and grace. She will be profoundly missed by many.

She leaves behind her much-loved children Jacqueline (Chris), Kevin (Anne-Marie), Kathleen and Eileen (Doug); her dear brothers Charlie (Ann), Marty (Phyllis) and Richie (Maureen); and
her beloved grandchildren Benjamin, Ryan, Jack, Dylan, Kevin and Sophie. She was predeceased by her long-time companion Tom Fitzgerald, her husband Gerry and her grandson Daniel. Rest in Peace.

Visiting will be at Nolan Funeral Home, 5 Laurel Avenue, Northport, Sunday, 2-5 & 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass St. Philip Neri Church, Northport, Monday, 10 AM. Burial will follow at Parish Cemetery, East Northport, NY. In Evelyn's memory donations to VNS Hospice of Suffolk 505 Main Street Northport, NY would be appreciated and remembered.
