When I look back and reflect on the many wonderful memories of my cousin Roy, there is one in particular that comes to mind that embodies the loving, kind and compassionate person he was. The guy that was always happy and happy to help.
A long time ago, back in 76 sometime, there was a young guy, a biker with long hair and an unfriendly face broken down on the side of the road at ridley creek state park. Car after car passed and no one would stop and help. Finally along comes another young man, in his early twenties, my cousin Roy. What did he do. He stopped when no one else would. He asked how he could help. The biker asked him to take a phone number and call his dad so he can come pick him up. Roy obliged. The biker didn’t know if he would actually do it but shortly after, the dad showed up.
Fast forward a bit to a family party that I am at with my boyfriend and here comes Roy. He walks up to me and says to my boyfriend, Hey, I know you. You’re the biker on the road I helped!! What a small world!! And of course that biker turned out to be my husband Andy now of 48 years.
They say cousins are you’re first friends in life and that was surely true of him. He was so much to so many and will be greatly missed! Love you my cousin and my friend.

My dearest friend and so valued colleague,
As your close friends and loving family gather to celebrate the life of our dear friend and former colleague, Roy Del Rosario, please always remember, that your father, husband, and dear friend, Roy was even more...to me, he was a mentor, a confidant, and an unconditional friend whose presence enriched our lives in countless ways.
I first met Roy back in 1991-92, in the bustling atmosphere of the Wyndham Bristol in Washington DC. As the Executive Chef, I had the pleasure of working alongside Roy, who brought his expertise as the Restaurant GM from the Wyndham Franklin Plaza. Together, we navigated the fast-paced world of Food & Beverage Service, learning from each other and sharing countless laughs along the way.
Roy was not only a dedicated professional but also a man with an infectious sense of humor and unparalleled people skills. Our days were filled with hard work, but our off-hours were spent exploring the vibrant streets of DC, indulging in great food, and enjoying the Georgetown nightlife.
One particular memory stands out, a hilarious incident involving glitter and a plate of potato hash cakes from an early morning banquet. It was Roy's unmistakable charm and laughter that made even the most stressful moments memorable.
Another fun memory included both Roy & I being chastised, then almost thrown out of the White House by the Secret Service, for wandering to far outside the kitchen during a State Dinner we both volunteered to work during the Bush Sr. Presidency.
Despite the passing years, Roy's spirit remained timeless. His recent initiative to reconnect after over 30 years reminded me of the enduring bond we shared. His voicemail, addressing me as "Chef," transported me back to those days of camaraderie and shared experiences.
Roy's zest for life, his unwavering dedication to his work, and his ability to make everyone around him feel valued will forever be cherished. Though our time together was interrupted by life's twists and turns, I am grateful for the years we did have and honored to have called him my brother and friend.
As his loving family and close friends bid farewell to Roy today, let us take comfort in knowing that his laughter and warmth will live on in our memories. May he rest in peace, knowing that he was loved and cherished by all who knew him. Until we meet again, dear friend, may you watch over us as the special angel you are.
Farewell, Roy. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
Robert "Chef" Leck - Wyndham Bristol Washington DC 1991-92
