Steinhaus - Bernadette Irene, 84, of Centerport, died Saturday, March 8, 2014. She and her husband, the late Edward Steinhaus, were married for 47 years. She retired from Bell Atlantic, formerly New York Telephone. She and her identical twin sister, the late Frances Burlingame, were among the original "Toni Twins" in the late 1940s. They traveled nationally and internationally as part of Toni Home Permanent Wave's "Which Twin has the Toni?" campaign. Their photographs appeared in a variety of publications, including Life and Look magazines. She was an accomplished watercolor artist. She is survived by four daughters, Karen Steinhaus, Lorraine Gettis, Claudia Steinhaus, and Janet Steinhaus; five grandchildren, Petty Officer Edward Gettis, USN, Andrew Gettis and his wife Marianna, Travis Steinhaus, Emily Gettis, and Theodore Steinhaus; and two great-granddaughters, Madilyn and Julianna Gettis. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, in Centerport United Methodist Church, 97 Little Neck Road, Centerport. Calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 10, at Nolan & Taylor-Howe Funeral Home, 5 Laurel Ave., Northport. Interment will be in Northport Rural Cemetery. Memorials in her name to The Art League of Long Island; or the Greenlawn Centerport Historical Society.
