It has been a while since I have seen Sam, but the memories I have of when our children were young, are great. He was so happy and always had a smile. He was always willing to help out and take part and the joy that he had when he was with his children was just terrific to be around. My memories of Sam are that he was a wonderful person and I'm glad i got to spend some time around him before his accident.

Sam was one of those rare individuals who, in the high school social order, transcended cliques. He was everyone's friend, and everyone was his. He was brave in a way that few of us are as adolescents. Even before that, in first grade, he was brave enough to be the only boy in a dance class full of girls. My mother adored him for that. Later, in high school, Sam was attending BOCES, and he would often miss his bus in the morning. My mom, on her way to work, would catch him hitchhiking to school. She'd pick him up and drive him the rest of the way. Eventually, Sam just started calling my house when he missed the bus, and my mom would pick him up and take him to school on her way to work. Years later, we ran into him at the grocery store to discover he was now a licensed plumber. My mom described a plumbing problem at our house, and he followed us home to have a look. He fixed the problem and, from that day on, he did the plumbing work at my parents' house. My mom's been gone herself for over 20 years, but I know what she'd say if she were here, "He was the only boy in the dance class!" Rest in peace, Sam.

Sam was one of the first people we met when we moved to the neighborhood in 2018. He was always so warm and friendly. Our dog fell in love with him from the first day!
We were so sad to hear about his passing. Sending our prayers and condolences.

I will always remember Sam as being a good neighbor and a happy soul. As a single parent who took on the responsibility of raising my grandchild, Alyssa at age 3, now known as AJ at age 23, Sam always complimented me on being a strong, caring woman and he always complimented AJ for the kids character and personality. Years back Grace and Alyssa were on the same softball team, Grace wasn't exactly a star player but that didn't matter to him, whenever Grace was at bat, Sam's voice could be heard for a mile cheering her on. Once Sam's son was playing little league on the same field, Sam could be seen and heard running between the games to cheer and show support. Once when Sam was recovering from his accident, I was in my front yard and saw a small white dog walking down the street, I had no idea it was Sam's dog, then I see Sam in his van going 5 miles an hour and I asked him if he had car trouble, he said oh no I'm just walking my dog, she knows the way, it was hysterical. I last spoke to him little over a year ago, again I was in my front yard and he was driving by with his boat, he stopped as always to talk, he wasn't his usual cheery Sam that I knew, he was sad and said he missed his family, he never once said a negative word to me about anyone in his family, he loved his family and he said he missed his kids. Rest in peace Sam, hopefully you are in a place where you are now free from all the things that brought you down, hopefully you are now in a place where there is no judgement, and hopefully those who knew you best will remember the good in you and your happy spirit, so sorry you left this earth so young.

Sam invited me to the 9th Grade Dinner Dance. It was an act of bravery: I was a bullied nerd and he was handsome, popular and beloved. I remember us being jeered on the playground about it. He said proudly that yes, he'd invited me. We were great friends. He made me feel beautiful that night. Later, he taught me how to drive a stick shift. I'm in shock I’m sorry I’m rambling

I’m heartbroken for the loss of your brother Sam. We lived next door to Liz and Andy while he was rebuilding their home. He was kind to my family and he always made us smile. Sam was an outstanding carpenter and their house was and still is beautiful. My condolences for your entire family.

Sam was one of the toughest kids I ever knew. He always reminded me of someone you would see in those old photos from the 1800s, tough as nails and trying his hat at a little bit of everything, he would have fit right in back then. At the same time he was just one of us neighborhood kids, having fun, getting in trouble, figuring life out and such. If you were on his good side, he met you with that disarming sneaky smile and he would do anything for you. Even as we got older and drifted apart, there was something comforting knowing that Sam was around. My parents Rock and Peggy loved Sam. My grandma Ann loved Sammy, he always had her smiling and laughing from the get go. My brother Rocky and I loved hanging with Sam back in those seemingly endless carefree days of childhood on Montauk Ave and around Dickinson Ave and were always amazed how good he was working with his hands, taking things apart, swapping engines, and building things. Sam left his mark for sure, we’re better off having known and loved him and we’ll definitely miss him.
