I knew John casually as a classmate in junior high and high school. Despite his nickname, Moose, by which we all knew him, he was actually very gentle and good natured, kind to all his classmates, with friends across the social spectrum. We will always remember him as a good soul.
My deepest condolences to his family and friends, many people share your sorrow and wish you hope and strength at this difficult time.
