Obituary of Mary Frances Geraghty

Mary Frances Geraghty passed away on June 26, 2009 from complications due to the autoimmune disease Lupus. Born in Ireland, she grew up with her five siblings in the rural farming area of Monksland Village, Athlone. In 1976 she began training as a nurse, and qualified in general practice, psychology, and midwifery. After moving to Manchester, England, at nineteen years old she met Patrick Jude Geraghty, an aspiring aerospace engineer at the time. They were married on May 29th, 1985, and gave birth to Rebecca Lindsay on April 10th, 1987 in Gloucestershire. The family embraced the American dream in 1987, starting their life in California, and later moving to Northport, New York. When Rebecca was almost two years old, Mary was diagnosed with Lupus. For twenty years Mary lived her life to the fullest with this immune condition, and recently celebrated her daughter's graduation from college with joy. Her memory is preserved through her husband and daughter, who will continue the family effort to raise awareness for Lupus and work towards a cure. Mary is also survived by her Mother Josephine Curley of Athlone, and Two Brothers and Three sisters all of Europe.
