Obituary of James J. Byrne
BYRNE, James Jay died August 16 at age 79. The fourth son of the late Arthur and Helen Byrne, he was raised in Great Neck and settled in Northport where he became an avid sailor and member of the Centerport Yacht Club for many years. A principled and caring man and a dedicated attorney for over 40 years, he was respected by everyone who knew him. Survived by his loving wife Jeannine; beloved brother of John Bruce Byrne and sister Carolyn Byrne O'Neil; pre-deceased by brothers Arthur, Donald and Robert; proud uncle to many who will remember him for his sense of humor and the fervor of his charm.
He was a graduate of Harvard University and St. John's Law School where he was a member of their Law Review. He practiced independently in Suffolk County and was a member of the New York State and Suffolk County Bar Associations.
Visitation at the Nolan & Taylor-Howe Funeral Home, 5 Laurel Avenue, Northport, Wednesday 2-5 and 7-9PM (www.nthfh.com). Mass of Christian burial at St. Aloysius Church, Great Neck, Thursday 10:30AM. Interment All Saints Cemetery, Great Neck.
