John C. Bower, 65, of Kings Park, New York passed away in his sleep on Sunday (May 21, 2017) at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center after a valiant struggle with cancer.

John was born in Fall River, Massachusetts to Marion (née Cadorette) and the late John Bower and was the oldest of three sons, Jeffrey (Maria) Bower and Douglas (Karen) Bower.  John was a devoted husband to Joan (née Pavao), his wife of 43 years.  He was loving and proud of his two daughters Jessica McDonald and Julie Bower, his son-in-law Mark McDonald, and cherished his granddaughter Charlotte.

John took pleasure in work in fire protection and was Executive Vice President of ABCO Peerless Sprinkler Corp.  He was charitable with his time and expertise in his profession, serving as the Co-Chair of the 2008 and 2014 NYC Model Code Project Fire Protection Technical Committee and Chairman of the Mechanical Contractors Association (MCA) of NY's New York Fire Sprinkler Council.  He also served as President of the NYC Fire Museum, and was a member of the Museum Board of Trustees for over 20 years.  In his spare time, John enjoyed skiing, listening to music, and spending time with his family. John was proud to be an FDNY Honorary Battalion Chief, sworn in in 2001.

Visitation will take place at Nolan & Taylor-Howe Funeral Home, 5 Laurel Avenue, Northport, NY on Wednesday from 2-5 & 7-9 PM.

Visiting will also take place at Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea, MA 02777 on Friday from 10 AM - 12 PM. A service will be held at there at 12 PM with the burial to follow at Nathan Slade Cemetery, Somerset, MA.
