Obituary of William M. O'Connor

William “Bill” Matthew O’Connor, 47, of Pearl River, NY. Passed away suddenly Wednesday morning in Mount Sinai, NY.

As the noted author and illustrator of the popular Dracopedia book series, as well as thousands of award-winning published works of art and writing, Bill gave birth to countless characters, plots and places that came into being through his unique gifts. With his unbridled imagination and artistic confidence, Bill could turn a blank page, canvas or screen into a whole new universe with words, characters, ships, dragons and magic that continue to inspire us.

Without question, his proudest achievement was the privilege of being father to his “baby girls,” Samantha, 11, and Madeline, 4, with whom he enjoyed endless adventures, nightly “dance time,” and never a shortage of snuggles. He instilled in them a respect for the wonder of the natural environment on frequent hikes in the woods to seek and find the source of inspiration. They were his joy. They were his inspiration. His love for them will live forever through his work.

Bill earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Alfred University in 1992 cum laude.

Loving son of Isabelle Frances and the late William. Cherished father of Samantha and Madeline. Fond brother of Andrew and Patrick. Caring husband of Andrea. Bill is also survived by thousands of professional colleagues, friends, fans and followers throughout the worldwide illustration community. He will be forever loved and respected by all of them.

Reposing Nolan & Taylor-Howe Funeral Home, 5 Laurel Ave, Northport, 6-9 PM, Monday. Funeral Mass Tuesday, 10 AM, Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Centerport. Interment Northport Rural Cemetery.
