Chas Jirinec was a wonderful guy and a cherished teacher. He quite literally inspired me to become a scientist in the mid 1960’s as my Junior High School Science teacher. I did, and I still am. He also kept me out of trouble twice, and they were the only two times I really came close to the edge, but each time a stern hand and a compassionate lecture set me straight. I have given lectures on mentorship in the past, and he, along with two other Northport teachers, one elementary and one H.S., feature prominently in my life’s trajectory. I wrote Mr. Jirinec a long letter thanking him for all he meant to me about 30 years ago. I hope that he got it.

May you rest in peace Mr. Jirinec. I remember you had a good sense of humor. And thought you were amazing that you could tell I smoked back then by touching my hair. I had the honor of having Mr J for science At Northport Jr High and Chemistry at Northport High School. He was my favorite Teacher. He helped fuel my love for science. I have thought very fondly of him and how he was doing all these years. I am glad he had all these years with you all. I loved his stories of his time in the service. He was such a great teacher and man. He will always hold a special place in my heart .I hope he knew. My condolences prayers and love to you all in this time of your grief.

I remember him well, he kept me from getting in trouble once when I was falslely accused of setting off a smoke bomb. Also remenber him clamming at East beach many times. A real good guy and a man's man. So sorry for your loss.
