Matthew, I will never forget seeing you on my visits to Northport. You were always so kind and humble. I will never forget you playing the guitar for Michelle and I. Rest easy Matthew and I know you are playing a song for us all...

I have wonderful memories of Matt, particularly how he preferred to hang with his friends (and he had a lot of very close ones) in a one-on-one fashion, which, in the blur of overwhelming large social gatherings in high school, was a great way to really get to know a person on a deeper level. Matt and I would sit for hours out on his boat or in the car listening to music, talk radio, or comedy, and have passionate discussions about it all. Being from Long Island, aimless long drives and walks were also fertile ground for Matt and me to spend hours sharing our most personal thoughts, stories, and feelings. Matt was a very generous friend in every way, especially with his words, and in the last year I feel fortunate that we both had the opportunity through texts and phone calls to share what we meant to each other all these years. Matt had great taste in music. Matt was a restless artist when it came to his creativity and as my musical tastes changed when we were in the 10th grade, instead of teasing and shunning me as tends to happen with young people unable to embrace new things, Matt respected it because he respected me and we then both encouraged each other to explore whatever moved us musically regardless of what others thought. To this day, there are certain musical artists I listen to because of Matt, artists I may not have dug as deep into had it not been for my respect for him and his assuring me that it was worth it and up my alley. Matt was always the most respectful kid around my parents and our home and was always welcome with open arms there. It is not an understatement to say that Matt was one of the few people who truly knew and appreciated me. I am a lot to handle and he always sought me out intentionally! Matt was very special and I'm glad I got to remind him of that recently- he was one of my biggest fans and I'll never forget that or him.
