Obituary of Mark Gennaro, MD

Words of remembrance / Eulogies for family and close friends Starting at 10 am Friday July 26 at Nolan Funerl Home.

Dr. Mark Gennaro, sixty-six, of Centerport New York, passed away on July 20, 2024, after a long battle with a glioblastoma multiforme.

Mark was born on September 13, 1957, to Louis and Jean Gennaro in Newark, New Jersey. Mark was the youngest of six and is survived by his siblings Jane, Claire, Peter, Paul, and Carol. After Mark graduated from West Essex High School, North Caldwell, New Jersey, in 1975, he went on to study at Williams College.

After graduating with a BS in geochemistry, he attended New York Medical College and went on to be a board-certified vascular surgeon. He practiced in this field in New York for over thirty years caring for many patients, who fondly remember his expertise and compassionate nature.

Mark was still practicing in Huntington and Greenlawn, New York, when he was diagnosed with a GBM. His support network of friends and family and especially his beloved partner Christine Kippley and only child, Alexander Brett Gennaro compassionately managed his care until the end.

Mark was a dedicated physician spending many hours caring for those who had significant health problems. Yet, he enjoyed time with friends and family, travel especially to Italy, golf, fine dining, and cooking meals for others. He will be forever remembered for his  extremely generous nature, his willingness to listen to different perspectives, and his unending curiosity.

The family will hold services for Mark on July 25th at Nolan Funeral Home (5 Laurel Ave, Northport, NY 11768) from 1-4PM and 6-9PM. Donations to the below charities rather than flowers would be appreciated to continue research of this rare, aggressive, terminal, and little understood disease. With a parent and sibling who served in the US Military, Mark held our service officers in extremely high regard, and would also be happy with donations to our veterans.
