Obituary of Owen Walter Coleman

Owen W Coleman (1938-2024)

On July 27, 2024, the world bid farewell to a remarkable man. Surrounded by his cherished family, Owen, a devoted father, grandfather, and husband, left behind a legacy of boundless love and unwavering dedication. His 86 years on this earth were marked by the adoration of many, encompassing not only his vast accomplishments in business and design but also the profound success of his children Alisa, Evan, and Brad.

Owen's journey was shaped by the nurturing embrace of his upbringing in a home steeped in culture and art, guided by his parents Bella and Adolph with his sister Michelle. From a young age, their love kindled his artistic spirit, leading him on a path of creativity and inspiration. His educational pursuits at the Arts Students League, NYC's High School of Music and Art, and Parsons School of Design paved the way for a remarkable career in graphic design.

Despite early challenges, Owen's unwavering spirit and entrepreneurial vision propelled him forward. He co-founded Owen Coleman & Associates, marking the genesis of a series of groundbreaking branding ventures. Alongside his beloved wife Ellen, Owen sculpted a legacy of shared dreams and triumphs, expanding his vision into a global network of branding companies.

A visionary leader with a discerning eye for talent, Owen mentored countless young executives, fostering the growth of The Coleman Group into a global powerhouse with over 19 companies in 18 countries leading to its notice and acquisition by The Interpublic Group and further merger with Futurebrands forming Futurebrand Coleman an award winning force within the design community. His collaborations with leading conglomerates and iconic brands left an indelible mark on the world stage working with Snapple, Diet Coke, Tylenol, Kotex, Green Giant, Pillsbury Dough Boy, Tropicana and more.

Beyond the confines of design, Owen's entrepreneurial spirit knew no limits. The Coleman Alliance, a culmination of his experience and network, birthed innovative ventures in diverse realms, showcasing his boundless creativity.

A man of grandeur and passion, Owen's crowning achievement emerged from a chance encounter on a Saint Lucian holiday with Ellen. Transformed from a modest abode into the breathtaking Caille Blanc Villa & Hotel, his visionary design metamorphosed a simple home into an award-winning sanctuary of luxury which he shared with the world.

Remembered for his infectious humor and shared joy, Owen's life was a tapestry woven with love and laughter. His absence leaves a void in the hearts of his loving wife Ellen, his devoted children Alisa, Evan, and Brad, their spouses Michael and Debbie, his grandchildren Victoria, Hunter, Abby, Isabel and Max, and a multitude of friends. Though he has departed this world, his spirit lives on in the enduring legacy of love and creativity he leaves behind.

Services will be held Saturday August 3, 2024 11am at Nolan's Funeral Home; 5 Laurel Ave, Northport NY 11768; followed by internment at Northport Rural Cemetery.
